The current state of transport infrastructure in Central and Eastern European Countries (CEECs) and in the Newly Independent States of the former Soviet Union (NIS) calls for immense investment and rehabilitation programmes. To bring down the very high accident frequencies, focused road safety initiatives are a priority concern.
