The new series of publications "Mathematics and mathematical
modeling" will present the state of the art in various fields of
applied mathematics with a strong emphasis on mathematical
modelling, numerical simulations, understanding of natural
phenomena. It can be used by scientists working in the
corresponding areas of research, by graduate and undergraduate
students.
The first publication of the series is devoted to modelling of
plant growth. It develops new mathematical models of plant
growth based on simplified but realistic biological mechanisms.
Possible explanations of various biological phenomena are
suggested: diversity of plant forms, sizes and lifetimes,
endogenous rhythms, apical domination.
