The XIV UAE Congress, which was held in Ischia on July 2000, has been dedicated to the "EC Law facing the new millennium's challenges".

The most authoritative authors, professors, members of national and EC Competition Authorities gathered to discuss on themes such as "Globalisation and Competition", "New technologies and protection of intellectual property rights" and "The necessary adaptation of the procedural rules and their Community harmonisation".

Furthermore, part of the works of the Congress have been focused on the effects of the EC Law on the professional ethics of lawyers. From such debate it emerged the need for a new professional figure, the "European lawyer", who would be able to face the new challenges of the European market, which becomes each day wider and more competitive.
