This notebook presents some of the photographs published in 1886 in Life and Landscape on the Norfolk Broads by Peter Henry Emerson (1856-1936), an Anglo-American surgeon, photographer and writer. An apologist for « naturalistic » photography, he brought it to life by documenting life in the Broads, a network of rivers and lakes in eastern England. Between social reporting and organized poses, he captured the peaceful harmony of workers and landscapes, and recreated the atmosphere of the marshes in soft tonal graduations.
