Les études de ce volume traitent de la presse en langue non-nationale dans les pays de la Méditerranée : la presse francophone, ainsi que les presses italophone et hellénophone en Égypte ; la presse francophone en Grèce, dans l'Empire ottoman et au Levant ; la presse italophone de Tunisie, la presse anglophone d'Algérie.

Sitôt lu, le journal est froissé et mis au panier. Le souci premier est la conservation des ces éphémérides - mémoire de l'instant volatile par leur fragilité et le peu de soin qu'on y prête - l'inventaire systématique et le sauvetage par la numérisation. La mise à disposition en ligne des textes océrisés permet d'interroger le contenu sous diverses facettes, presse politique, propagande, création littéraire et artistique, presse féminine/niste, presse médicale, etc. dans le contexte de l'instant et dans l'environnement méditerranéen.

The studies in this volume look at the press in non-national languages of the countries of the Mediterranean. This includes the French, Italian and Greek-language press in Egypt ; the French-language press in Greece, the Ottoman Empire and in the Levant ; the Italian in Tunisia and English in Algeria.

No sooner read, a newspaper is crumpled up and thrown in the bin. The initial concern is the preservation of these ephemera, these memories of a moment, so short-lived because of their physical fragility and the lack of care paid to them. The papers must be systematically inventoried and saved by scanning. After OCR processing and up-loading to the Internet, the contents of this printed matter can be searched across the variety of subjects presented. There are political, propaganda, literary and artistic journals ; magazines covering women's issues ; medical and feminist periodicals and more. And they all open up a window on an instant in time in the context of the Mediterranean world.
