This book recounts the ordeals of the civilians trapped under the bombs, the state of the forces engaged in the battle, the process of the fighting in the ruined town. It is based on archive documents and pictures which had never been exploited before. Numerous photographs, including some colour ones and several maps, complete the text to retrace the course of events and to separate once and for all myth from reality.
