Vers une station zéro émission

Dans les premières années du nouveau millénaire, un petit groupe d'individus entreprit de construire dans l'Antarctique une station de recherche d'un genre nouveau. L'Année polaire internationale 2007-2009 fut à l'origine de ce projet porté par un explorateur polaire visionnaire.

La conception de la station Princess Elisabeth se devait d'être exemplaire, dans le respect de l'esprit et des prescriptions du protocole environnemental du Traité sur l'Antarctique. Le résultat dépassa tous les espoirs et vint prouver la possibilité de trouver des voies alternatives vers un développement durable véritable.

Grâce à leur ingéniosité et à la bonne volonté des nombreuses personnes venues aider à relever le défi, ils surmontèrent des obstacles infranchissables jusqu'à vivre une formidable aventure moderne sur une terre mythique : celle de la construction, dans une approche d'ingénierie hybride, d'un prototype à l'esthétique magistrale et au fonctionnement « zéro émission », une véritable « fleur intergalactique », la station Princess Elisabeth Antarctica.

In the opening years of the new Millennium, a small group of individuals set out to build a novel type of research station in Antarctica. The impetus for the project was the International Polar Year 2007-2009. The force behind : a polar explorer with a vision. The Princess Elisabeth station was to be an exemplary design that would respect the spirit and the letter of the environmental protocol to the Antarctic Treaty. The resulting structure surpassed everything that they had hoped for, and became a demonstration of an alternative route to truly sustainable development.

Harnessing their ingenuity, and the goodwill of the many inspired to join in the challenge, they overcame insurmountable obstacles, to live a glorious modern adventure in a mythical land, in the process harnessing a hybrid engineering approach to deliver an aesthetically powerful prototype of zero emissions operations, a veritable « intergalactic blossom », the Princess Elisabeth Antarctica.

en de zoektocht naar nuluistoot

Aan het begin van het nieuwe millennium ging een kleine groep mensen aan de slag om een nieuw soort onderzoeks-station te bouwen in Antarctica. Het Internationale Pooljaar 2007-2009 vormde de aanzet voor het project. De drijvende kracht erachter was een poolonderzoeker met een droom. Het Princess Elisabeth-station moest een voorbeeldproject worden waarbij de geest en de letter van het milieuprotocol van het Antarctisch Verdrag gerespecteerd zouden worden. Het daaruit voortkomende bouwwerk overtrof alles waarop ze hadden gehoopt, en werd een toonbeeld van een alternatieve route naar daadwerkelijk duurzame ontwikkeling.

Gebruikmakend van hun vindingrijkheid en de goodwill van de velen die zich enthousiast bij hen aansloten om de uitdaging aan te gaan, overwonnen ze onoverkomelijke obstakels en beleefden ze een schitterend modern avontuur in een mythisch land, waarbij ze kozen voor een hybride manier van bouwen om een prachtig prototype van een nuluitstoot-systeem, een waarlijk « intergalactische bloem », te creëren : Princess Elisabeth Antarctica.
