donation de ses oeuvres, représentatives des grandes orientations

de son travail, au musée d'Art moderne et contemporain

de Strasbourg (MAMCS), sa ville d'accueil dans les années 1980,

celle qui l'a aidé et protégé dans sa création, ainsi qu'au musée

Nicéphore Niepce de Chalon-sur-Saône, haut lieu français

de conservation de l'art photographique et de ses techniques.

Rassemblant ses deux donations, le catalogue fait la synthèse

rétrospective de ses expérimentations photographiques, offre

les outils critiques pour une mise en contexte de son travail

dans l'histoire de la photographie française et célèbre la carrière

d'un photographe, dont les images empreintes de références

à la science, à la littérature et à l'histoire de la photographie

constituent une cosmogonie propre.

In 2012, Patrick Bailly-Maître-Grand made an important donation

of works reflecting the key facets of his work to the Musée d'Art

Moderne et Contemporain de Strasbourg (MAMCS), the city that

has been his home since the 1980s and has nurtured his artistic

career, and to the Musée Nicéphore Niépce in Chalon-sur-Saône,

the centre for the conservation of the art and technology of

photography in France.

This catalogue brings together these two donations and provides

a retrospective overview of his photographic experiments, placing

his work in the context of the history of French photography.

It celebrates the career of a photographer whose images filled

with references to the science, literature and history of photography

form a distinct cosmogony.
