Jacques Grinberg fut, dans les années soixante à Paris, l'un

des précurseurs de la Nouvelle figuration. Puis sa vision du monde

l'a éloigné de tous mouvements ou écoles. Il est resté dans la révolte

et la contestation. Artiste totalement libre, il peignait, dessinait - et

écrivait ! - ce qu'il voulait et comme il voulait.

Certains de ses tableaux, surtout vers la fin, semblent abstraits.

Ils ne le sont jamais. Son art ne cherche jamais à plaire. Pourtant il

plaît. Sa peinture est spontanée, violente, souvent cruelle jusqu'à

l'insoutenable - et de l'autre côté, sa pensée est douce, humaine,

caressante. Sa palette est mélancolique, tout en cultivant la dérision.

Attiré par l'écriture, l'artiste s'est intéressé à la kabbale et au

tao et s'en inspirait. Il y découvrait l'importance de l'écriture, du caractère,

du signe, de la forme de la lettre.

Jacques Grinberg was one of the pioneers of Nouvelle Figuration

in Paris in the sixties. Subsequently, his world view distanced

him from any movement or school. He remained in a position of revolt

and contestation. A totally free artist, he painted, sketched - and

wrote! - whatever he wanted and as he wanted.

Some of his paintings, especially towards the end, appear

abstract. But they never are. His art never seeks to please. Yet it

pleases. His painting is spontaneous, violent, often cruel to the point

of being unbearable - conversely, his thinking is gentle, human, affectionate.

His palette is melancholic, all the while cultivating derision.

The artist's strong interest in writing led him to the Kabbalah

and Tao, which became inspirations. These works taught him the

importance of script and the character, sign and shape of the letter.
