Fringe 2001

This volume contains one keynote paper, nine invited papers from internationally recognized scientists and more than 80 papers from international authors, presented during the 4th International Workshop on Automatic Processing of Fringe Patterns which was held in Bremen, Germany, 17-19 September 2001.
According to new developments, the original focus of the Fringe workshop series was continuously expanded. While this expansion was turned in 1993 towards shape measurement and material fault detection, in 1997 towards scaled metrology, active measurement and hybrid processing technologies, this Fringe 2001 deals especially with optical methods for micromeasurement and new approaches such as virtual and remote metrology.
Emphasis is put on new fields of increasing interest where the processing of fringe patterns plays an important role, as for instance optical shape measurement in different scales, interferometric displacement analysis and automatic detection of material faults.
The papers presented in this workshop are combined into five topics which are considered to be the most current research fields in optical metrology. For each topic, invited papers give a detailed review of the state of the art.
