Rural areas are changing rapidly and few still recall the sleepy backwaters of the past. These areas are now attracting a range of businesses which traditionally were situated in or near major urban centres. Yet some rural areas struggle to cope in today's global market because of an historical dependence on primary industries which today are in decline.
