In 1902, the Association of Visual Artists Vienna Secession hosted an exhibition celebrating Ludwig van Beethoven.

For this occasion, Gustav Klimt created a vast frieze illustrating Beethoven's 9th Symphony.

Today, this work is considered to be one of Klimt's masterpieces and a highlight of Viennese Art Nouveau.
