Hantaï

La rétrospective de Simon Hantaï, un des artistes majeurs de la seconde moitié du XX^e siècle, nous donne, pour la première fois, l'opportunité de découvrir l'ensemble de son oeuvre, complexe, poétique et singulière. Le parcours de l'exposition met en lumière la démarche de Hantaï, des premières toiles surréalistes aux surprenantes peintures d'écritures. Puis, à partir de 1960, les séries successives d'oeuvres qui procèdent du « pliage comme méthode » révèlent un grand coloriste.

This retrospective of the work of Simon Hantaï, one of the major artists of the second half of the 20th century, gives us for the first time the opportunity to discover the totality of his complex, poetic, and singular oeuvre. The exhibition illuminates Hantaï's development over his career, from the first Surrealist canvases to the astonishing writing-paintings. Then, beginning in 1960, the successive series of works proceeding from « pliage as a method » reveal him as a great colorist.
