Cet ouvrage réunit les contributions originales de chercheurs, curateurs,

artistes et cinéastes qui sont intervenus dans le cadre d'un projet

de recherche conduit à l'ECAL/Ecole cantonale d'art de Lausanne, dont

l'enjeu vise à reconstruire l'histoire du cinéma exposé et à retracer

son archéologie. La première partie, conjoignant des essais théoriques

ou historiques et des interventions d'artistes et de cinéastes, propose

un état des lieux du film en situation d'exposition. La deuxième partie,

issue d'une journée d'études organisée en partenariat avec l'Université

de Lausanne, dresse une cartographie du cinéma élargi en Europe, qui

se déploie à travers des formes et des stratégies moins spectaculaires

qu'aux Etats-Unis. Ce livre se conclut en reproduisant un rapport pour

l'UNESCO sur l'actualité de l'art vidéo, rédigé en 1983 par René Berger.

This volume gathers original contributions by researchers, curators, artists

and filmmakers made in the framework of a research project conducted

at ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne whose aim was to

reconstruct the history of exhibited cinema and to trace its archaeology.

The first part brings together theoretical or historical essays and

interventions by artists and filmmakers to offer an overview of film

in exhibition contexts. Stemming from a study day jointly organised with

the University of Lausanne, the second part maps Expanded Cinema

in Europe, which unfolds through less spectacular strategies than in the

United States. This book concludes with the republishing of a UNESCO

report on the state of video art written in 1983 by René Berger.
