L'Heure des sorcières fait suite à Sorcières : pourchassées,

assumées, puissantes, queer (2012), un recueil de textes et

d'entretiens portant sur la figure de la sorcière comme

métaphore de l'altérité. Conçu comme son pendant visuel

ainsi que comme le catalogue d'une exposition collective au

centre d'art Le Quartier à Quimper, l'ouvrage pose les questions

suivantes : qu'incarne la sorcière ? Quels mécanismes et

affects convoque-t-elle ? Comment cette «classe infortunée»,

comme l'a dénommée Jules Michelet, a-t-elle été élevée

au rang de protoféministe ? Et quelles leçons politiques,

sociales et humaines nous a-t-elle transmises ?

La dimension de la recherche, précieuse à ce projet comme

aux artistes y participant, est véhiculée au travers d'une

trame textuelle à mi-chemin entre le glossaire et le journal

de citations. Des extraits de textes clés des trente dernières

années, choisis pour leur résonance avec le sujet traité,

accompagnent des nouveaux textes, des détails d'oeuvres,

des vues d'expositions, des documents sources et des interventions

d'artistes réalisées spécifiquement pour ces pages.

The Witching Hour follows Witches: Hunted, Appropriated,

Empowered, Queered (2012), a collection of texts and interviews

which examined the witch figure as a metaphor

for alterity. Conceived as its visual companion and as the

catalogue of a group exhibition held at the art centre

Le Quartier in Quimper, the book explores the following

questions: What do witches embody? What mechanisms

and affects do they summon? How was this "unfortunate

class" - as Jules Michelet has called them - raised to the

rank of protofeminist? And what political, social and

human lessons have they handed down to us?

The research dimension, vital to this project and to the

participating artists, is conveyed by a textual thread that

lies somewhere between a glossary and a journal of quotes.
