Poor efficiency of energy use reduces economic productivity, contributes to environmental pollution and depletes energy resources more rapidly than would otherwise be the case. At present China consumes large amounts of energy at low efficiency with serious environmental impacts. With continuing rapid economicgrowth, the problem is worsening.
