This book contains the papers presented at the Symposium 'Continuous Damage and Fracture', which was held in Cachan, France, 23-27 October 2000.

The papers, presented by leading specialists in the field deal with recent advances in continuum damge mechanics, fracture mechanics and new approaches in fracture. It considers different class of materials (metals, ceramics, multimaterials, concrete and polymers) and covers different types of damage (brittle, ductile, creep, fatigue).

The volume presents an overview of current research on fracture but also how this research is used in Industry. It will be of interest to civil, structural and mechanical engineers involved with experimental and theoretical modelling of fracture, safety and design of a variety of structures.
