As the last eye-witnesses to the Great War die one

by one, it is increasingly important to preserve the

memory of this conflict, which was a veritable

European civil war. The Marne department was

among the most badly scarred, both because of

the trench warfare and needless butchery of the

Argonne and Champagne offensives, which took

place in its northern region, and the war of movement

of the two Battles of the Marne in its western

region. The Mondement, Ferme de Navarin

and Blanc-Mont monuments, the Dormans

Memorial and the military cemeteries, whose

number and size bear witness to the intensity of

the fighting, are the focal points of this guided

understand and meditate on the reasons for these
