The musée Guimet, National museum of Asian Art, offers a unique and original collection

of over 4,000 pieces, originally gathered by an industrialist from Lyon, a man ahead of

his time, and a passionate enthusiast of Asia and religions, Émile Guimet (1836-1918).

The rarity, quality and variety of these works - sculptures, paintings, ceramies, textiles,

furniture, etc. - establishing it as the greatest European national museum dedicated to the

arts of Asia.

Written by the museum's curators, this Collections Guide, richly illustrated, follows

the course of a museum visit, from India to China, from Afghanistan to Japan, from the

Neolithic times to the nineteenth century, thus providing a broad overview of Asian arts
