Kristaq Sotiri appartient indéniablement à cette famille de très grands photographes qu'a connue l'Albanie jusqu'à la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Si sa production n'égale ni en durée ni en quantité celle de la dynastie des Marubi, qui jouit désormais d'une reconnaissance internationale, sa qualité technique comme les thèmes traités en font un témoin privilégié d'un temps de changements profonds, d'une transition rapide de l'époque ottomane à un État national albanais moderne. D'ailleurs, consciemment ou non, l'oeuvre qu'il nous a laissée porte clairement la trace d'un auteur tour à tour acteur et produit d'une société qu'il observe.

Without question, Kristaq Sotiri belongs to that family of great Albanian photographers working before the Second World War.

Though his output was not as prodigious as that of the internationally renowned Marubi dynasty, nor was his career as long, the technical quality and thematic content of his work stand witness to a period of profound change, of rapid transition from the Ottoman era to the modern Albanian nation-state. Indeed, whether consciously or not, Sotiri's work bears the trace of an artist who was both a product of and an actor in the society he observed.
