Tenma et Ochanomizu, étudiants en robotique, travaillent sur l'intelligence artificielle. Ils ont mis au point Six, un prototype de robot doté d'un embryon de conscience individuelle. Tandis que l'engin évolue à leur insu, un autre robot nommé Mars fait son apparition.
