Since 1985, the volume of world trade of temperate climate fruit (apples, pears, peaches, plums, apricots, grapes and kiwifruit) has risen by about 30 per cent. While trade was formerly local or regional, it occurs now from one hemisphere to another, due in particular to progress in preservation and transport techniques of fresh fruit.
