There are roads, schools, hôtels, shops, the station, cafés, restaurants, sports centres, ski-lifts...so many places that have sprung up over the years under the photographers lenses. Summer and winter alike, photographers roamed up and down tracks, snowfields, meadows, streets and alleyways to immortalise these changes.

That was before the emergence of winter sports, that period when crop farming and livestock breeding gave way to tourism, fundamentally changing people's mentalities and signalling the reversal of seasonal migration.
