Gérard Guyomard est "un des représentants les plus originaux de la figuration en France" selon le Grand Larousse Universel (édition de 1992). Cette originalité puise ses sources à la fois dans l'esprit anarchiste, auquel le peintre est toujours resté fidèle, et dans une technique picturale très personnelle à base de superpositions.

Depuis ses débuts en 1964, Guyomard développe un art consciemment narratif dont il était temps de prendre la mesure, à la fois par un livre, rédigé par le critique Jean-Luc Chalumeau, historien de la Nouvelle figuration, et par les expositions rétrospectives qui lui sont consacrées.

His originality has its roots both in the Anarchist spirit, to which the painter has always remained faithful, and in a highly personal painterly technique based on layering.

Since his beginnings in 1964, Guyomard has developed a consciously narrative art and the time has come to take the measure of it, both by means of this book, written by the historian of New Figuration, Jean-Luc Chalumeau, and through a series of exhibitions and retrospectives of his work.
