Football nostalgia, heroics and Belgian
surrealism in a delightfully recognizable
photography book.
For years, photographer Jurgen Vantomme
photographed the most unusual football fields
in Belgium. He regularly focuses his camera on
the football players on the field, but is far more
often interested in the environment in which
the players play the game. From three old men
cheering from an almost empty stand to an
Anton Pieck-like football match in the snow.
As a passionate groundhopper he visited the
most nostalgic and photogenic stadiums
where he watched hundreds of football games,
from the Bosuil in Antwerp to the lowest
divisions of amateur football. For years, he
published in popular football magazines, such
as Sport/Voetbalmagazine, 11 Freunde, So
Foot, La Gazetta Dello Sport, FourFourTwo...
