Galatic and stellar dynamics : Porto, Portugal, september 3-6 2002

The workshop Galactic Dynamics was held from September 3 to
6 in Porto, Portugal, as part of the 2002 edition of the Joint
European & National Astronomy meeting (JENAM).
The scientific agenda of the workshop consisted of 32 oral and
12 poster presentations. A total of 40 participants joined in the
discussions. The oral presentations were split thematically over
three days. The topics covered were (broadly) : 1) galaxy dynamics
and morphology ; 2) galaxy formation & environment, dark
matter ; and 3) stellar clusters. Two invited reviews opened the
debates, followed by shorter presentations. This format proved
easy on the audience, and well-suited for a workshop of this
scope.
The European Astronomical Society was founded in 1990 to promote the
advancement of astronomy in Europe. With this aim in mind, EAS decided
to launch this Publications Series, whose goal is to publish the
proceedings of selected scientific sessions. This series welcomes the
proceedings of colloquia, workshops and schools on astronomical subjects
of high standard, whether they are held in Europe or elsewhere.
