This book celebrates the reopening of the LaM - the Lille Métropole musée d'art

moderne, d'art contemporain et d'art brut - with numerous texts and interviews

going back over the 27 years of the museum's history. The museum's history is

divided into three key stages: the Masurel donation at the origin of the museum

and its exceptional collection of modern art, the museum's constant dedication

to the artistic creation of the times, leading to the constitution of a major

contemporary art collection, and finally the L'Aracine donation which brought

the museum a unique art brut collection and is the reason behind the extension.

Significant place is given to the museum's remarkable architecture. The

evolution of the museum over time is illustrated by works and numerous archive

images, many of which have never been published before.

This volume will be followed in 2011 by a second book, in which young French

and foreign art historians will give their insights about various issues in the

history of art, based on the works featured in the three collections of modern

art, contemporary art, and art brut.
