Composé de l' Agricola , de la Germanie et du Dialogue des orateurs , le corpus des opera

minora , ou opuscules, de Tacite n'a pas toujours reçu une attention comparable à ses

opera maiora , à savoir les Histoires et les Annales. Ce livre collectif est le premier qui

leur soit consacré. Une première série de contributions envisage le corpus à la fois

dans sa totalité et en articulation avec la production historiographique ultérieure de

Tacite. Une deuxième section explore des questions spécifiques à chaque ouvrage.

Une troisième partie revient sur la continuité avec les opera maiora , mais en se

centrant sur des aspects particuliers. À travers tous ces textes, ce sont les procédés

narratifs, la méthode historique et l'idéologie de Tacite, tels qu'ils se perpétuent et

évoluent du début à la fin de sa carrière littéraire, qui sont examinés.

The corpus of Tacitus' 'minor' works (the Agricola, Germania , and Dialogus ) has not

always received the same level of scholarly attention as has been devoted to the

'major' historical narratives (the Histories and Annals ). The collection of essays in this

volume sets out to resist such fragmentation by reintegrating the 'minor' and 'major'

works conceptually and by analysing them together. In section one, contributors

consider the corpus holistically and examine the 'minor' works broadly in relation to

the subsequent historiographical works of Tacitus. In section two, specific questions

and problems relating to individual works in Tacitus' corpus are the focus of the

articles. In section three, contributors return to the issue of continuity between

the 'minor' and 'major' works, but this time consider more defined and distinctive

issues. All the articles together examine from different angles how Tacitus' narrative

techniques, historical methods, and ideological stance evolve and develop from the

start to the end of his vibrant literary career.
