Between 1989/90 and December 1992, the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic (CSFR) took substantial steps leading it from a centralised command economy towards a market-based economy. However, the complex partition into two independent republics on 1 January 1993 temporarily diverted attention away from consolidating and strengthening the transformation measures of the three previous years.
