Depuis plus de vingt-cinq ans, Sigurdur Arni Sigurdsson conduit

fidèlement une démarche pensive sur l'espace et sa dimension abstraite

au travers de la peinture mais aussi du volume, de l'architecture, de la

photographie. L'image, si elle est présente dans ses oeuvres, est avant

tout le moyen de rendre sensible l'expérience évidente et insaisissable

de l'espace. Les pièces réunies au FRAC Corse à l'occasion de

l'exposition Jardins d'ombre pendant l'été 2012 retracent différents

moments du travail de l'artiste, peintures, installations, photographies,

qui poursuivent cette même préoccupation. La présente monographie

complète le regard sur le travail de cet artiste familier de la France

et de la Corse ; l'essai de Christophe Domino, qui cerne la présence

de l'ombre dans le travail de Sigurdsson, non comme un simple motif

mais comme une figure symbolique autant qu'optique, accompagne un

entretien où l'artiste évoque son itinéraire.

For more than 25 years, Sigurdur Arni Sigurdsson has remained

committed to a thought-provoking approach to space and its abstract

dimension, not just through painting but also in his use of volume,

architecture and photography. The image, when it is present in his

work, is above all a means of rendering the self-apparent and elusive

encounter with space perceptible. The collection of works shown at the

FRAC Corse for the Jardins d'ombre exhibition, in the summer of 2012,

retraces different areas of the artist's work, paintings, installations and

photographs that all share this same preoccupation. This monograph

complements other writings on the oeuvre of this artist who is very

familiar with both France and Corsica: the essay by Christophe

Domino, wherein he defines the shadow in Sigurdsson's work as not

just a simple motif but as a figure that has both symbolic and optical

importance, is accompanied by an interview in which the artist evokes

his artistic career.
