We need time before one who lives through an event fully grasps its historical import. Many young people who went through the ups downs of the war, of the occupation of France and its persecutions, have only very lately figured out the exceptional character of their lives.

It is only with time that the images acquire their full density, that each episode occupies its just place and that the whole takes its importance from its memory, in this individual memory that irrigates the canals of the collective memory.

I have known Victor Sullaper for such a long time that I believed I was familiar with all his past, with his action in the Resistance and, more particularly, in the saving of the Jews.
