Laurent Montaron : monographie
Héritière des éditions du Nouveau Musée, la collection IAC
invite historiens de l'art, philosophes, critiques et artistes à
développer, avec le recul de l'après-coup, les pistes théoriques
et conceptuelles amorcées par les différentes activités
de l'Institut d'art contemporain : expositions, colloques,
laboratoire, collection...
L'oeuvre de Laurent Montaron est imprégnée de l'histoire
contemporaine des médias. Leur avènement, depuis les techniques
de représentation mécanisée à la fin du XIX<sup>e</sup> siècle
jusqu'aux différentes formes actuelles, s'est accompagné de
croyances irraisonnées. Si l'image photographique a transformé
la perception de l'espace, c'est avec l'enregistrement,
la reproduction de l'image, du son et de la voix, que le temps,
lui-même, semble avoir changé. En interrogeant les outils
qui façonnent nos représentations, Laurent Montaron révèle
ainsi les paradoxes qui accompagnent notre conscience de
la modernité.
The 'Collection IAC' series is the successor of 'Nouveau Musée
Publications' and invites art historians, philosophers, critics
and artists to look back on the theoretical and conceptual
paths opened up by the various activities of the Institute: exhibitions,
colloquia, laboratory, the standing collection, etc.
The oeuvre of Laurent Montaron is suffused with the
contemporary history of the media. From the mechanical
techniques of representation of the late nineteenth century
through to today's different forms, the media have always
given rise to irrational beliefs. Photography changed the perception
of space, but with the recording and reproduction of
image, sound and voices, time itself seems to have changed.
Through his investigations of the tools that shape our representations
Montaron lays bare the paradoxes that accompany
our awareness of modernity.
