Resumé

La faune mammalienne du Cameroun est très riche et diversifiée : elle compte environ 315 espèces.

Cet ouvrage décrit 143 espèces (en excluant certaines espèces de petits rongeurs, chiroptères, insectivores et les mammifères marins).

Chaque espèce est décrite de façon complète (forme, couleur du corps, particularités morphologiques).

Les auteurs donnent également pour chaque espèce des renseignements sur la nourriture, les moeurs et l'habitat. Une carte de répartition au Cameroun est donnée pour la plupart des espèces. Un tableau, véritable « carte d'identité » de l'animal, est donné. Il renseigne sur les dénominations scientifique, commune, vernaculaires, étrangères (anglais, allemand), la formule dentaire, les mensurations (longueur, poids), la durée de gestation, la longévité et pour les animaux de chasse sportive, les trophées avec records.

Chaque espèce est illustrée par une photographie ou un dessin permettant une reconnaissance plus rapide.

Summary

The mammalian fauna of Cameroon is very rich and diversified : it counts about 315 species.

This book describes 143 species (excluding some species of small rodents, Chiropters, Insectivores and marine mammals).

Each species is fully described (shape, colour of the body, morphological particularities).

The authors also give for each species, information on the food, the habits and the habitat. A distribution map in Cameroon is given for most of the species. A table, a true « identity card » of the animal, is given. It provides information on the scientific, common, vernacular, foreign names (English, German), the dental formula, the measurements (length weight), the duration of gestation, the longevity and, for the animals for hunting, the trophies with records.

Each species is illustrated by a photography or a drawing that allows faster recognition.

Zusammenfassung

Kameruns Tierwelt der Säugetiere ist sehr reich und vielfältig. Insgesamt zählt sie etwa 315 Arten.

Dieses Buch beschreibt 143 Tierarten (kleine Nagetiere, Insektenfresser, Fledermäuse und Meeressäugetiere ausge-nommen)

Jede Tierart wird ausführlich beschrieben (Gestalt, Köperfarbe, morphologische Besonderheiten)

Die Autoren bieten auch für jede Tierart Informationen zu deren Nahrung, Lebensart und Lebensraum an. Für die meisten Tierarten zeigt eine Karte deren Hauptverbreitungsgebiete in Kamerun. Aubêtaerdem wird für die Tiere eine Tabelle, aufgebaut wie ein richtiger Personalausweis, abgedruckt. Hierin werden die wissenschaftlichen und die einheimischen Namen, sowie deren Übersetzung ins Englische und Deutsche aufgeführt. Aubêtaerdem, enthält die Tabelle die Zahnformel, die Körpermabêtae (Gröbêtae, Gewicht), die Tragezeit und die Lebensdauer. Fur manche Tierarten werden Rekordlisten der Trophäen des Jagdsports abgedruckt.

Um eine schnelle Identifizierung zu ermöglichen wird jede Tierart anhand eines Fotos oder einer Zeichnung dargestellt.
