Il offre également une série de portraits de ses amis, célèbres artistes, tels que Ernest Hemingway, William Faulkner, Henri Matisse et Pablo Picasso.

John Steinbeck once wrote that his friend Robert Capa knew that « you cannot photograph war, because it is largely an emotion ». However, continued Steinbeck, « he did photograph that emotion by shooting beside it. He could show the horror of a whole people in the face of a child ».

This book contains ninety-eight black and white shots that retrace the most important and tragic events of the previous century, from the Spanish Civil War to the Second World War, to the birth of the State of Israël.

They also include a series of portraits of Capa's friends, famous artists such as Ernest Hemingway, William Faulkner, Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso.
