Photo-biology is perhaps the most striking example of the conspicuous contribution provided by academic research to the progress of skin care technologies. As in every other domain of science, rigorous data are necessary for a deep understanding of the phenomena under scrutiny. This is particularly true for the discipline called « photo-aging », where rigorous, quantitative data have been wanting. The Atlas of photo-aging, by Roland Bazin et Frederic Flament, fills a void and is most welcome insofar as it provides rigorously collected evidences about the effect of solar radiation on the skin of different ethnic groups.
